Choosing top favourites for anything is difficult, but when you make a blush hoarder choose her top favourite blushes, gross sobbing and stressed binge eating ensues.
(Oh who am I kidding, I stress binge almost every week during the school season)
Would it be crazy if I told you I only started wearing blush mid last year??! Man, I've really outdone myself in hoarding blushes into the double digits. (I HAVE SELF ANOINTED MYSELF AS THE 'BLUSH WHISPERER')
BUT, while I may not have the largest blush collection, here are my current favourites!
(I tried to make this all drugstore because adding the highends to this mix would have been exhausting)

1. Milani 'Luminoso'
When I swatched this infamous shade on my arm to do this post, I was all like "HOLY SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS THIS IS ORANGE!!!". Then I slapped it on my face and remembered why I wore this shade daily during the summer. It's an absolutely beautiful shimmery/glowy peach, and the veining in the blush is just so beautiful to look at.
2. NYX 'Mocha'
Contrary to its name, this blush is actually a matte mid-tone pink, and ever since I picked it up in November, I haven't even had a chance to try my other NYX blushes because I couldn't stop wearing this daily for weeks. Gives such a beautiful pink flush to the face!
3. ELF's 'Mellow Mauve'
Ever since Iqra mentioned that this was her favorite blush of 2013, I realised that I also had the same blush, and on the autumn days that I wasn't wearing NYX's 'Mocha', I was wearing 'Mellow Mauve'. (Iqra's review here!) This is a deep mauve/plum shade with a satin finish.
4. Essence 'Sweetheart'
While this appears peachy on my cheeks (kinda??), it's actually a light pink, which is something I don't gravitate towards, but this isn't too light of a pink that I look like Nicki Minaj/Barbie/s00per girly.
(I think I look like a princess with this shade on)
5. Bourjois 'Nude Velvet'
This cream blush is a very pale peach/melon/cantaloupe shade, perfect in its subtlety. I generally use it for a healthy glow, and while the formula isn't as smooth as the Revlon cream blush, it's still a lovely blush.
6. Revlon 'Berry Flirtatious'
Berry shades are something ridiculously new to my collection, and after lusting for this blush after several months, it finally went on clearance at Target, and I was not hesitant to snap this up like an eagle pumped on freedom juice....wat.
While pigmentation is quite sheer, I won't complain because not gonna lie, I'm a bit nervous about wearing bolder shades on my face! Plus, this has to be the creamiest + smoothest cream blush formula I've tried so far! (...because of its silicones)
Annnnnd this is how they all look in comparison with each other:
ANYWAYS, THIS YEAR, in efforts to diversify and expand my blush collection, I've decided that once a month, I will buy is a blush from a brand I've never tried before.

ANYWAYS, THIS YEAR, in efforts to diversify and expand my blush collection, I've decided that once a month, I will buy is a blush from a brand I've never tried before.
This month, I've picked up a Paul & Joe blush! (Review/gushy excited post coming soon)
Not sure what I'll decide to pick up next month, but on my list include Sleek, MAC, theBalm, a NARS blush, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, etc. (...that's actually my complete idea list right now, if you have any brand ideas, toss 'em at me!)
What are your personal favourite blushes? ʘ‿ʘ
I'm also a huge blush addict! That Revlon blush is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteSome of my favourite blush brands are NARS (Sin), Tarte (Tipsy) and Stila's Convertile Colors (Sweet Pea) :)
AddictedtoOPI
WE'RE ALL BLUSH ADDICTS HERE. And the shade really is beautiful!
DeleteI'll definitely check out that NARS blush!
Haha the blush whisperer - girl you crack me up! Loved all the cute poses and swatching galore! Luminoso is definitely on my wishlist, but for some reason I cannot find it anywhere...arghh! :) x
ReplyDeletewww.natalielovesbeauty.com
SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT :D (and thanks!!!)
DeleteYeah, it's really tough to find. Some Walmarts carry it, but I know the Loblaws?PC?Supercentre sells it (the one that sells Joe Fresh)
Gotta try some of those! I'm actually not that much of a blush hoarder, although my lipstick collection is growing ever so quickly and I don't even use lipstick that often...
ReplyDeleteYet Another Make Up Blog.
Yeah, NGL, I'm surprised by how much lipstick you own! (But then again, I'm always surprised by how many lipsticks other people own b/c I don't really wear them)
DeleteBeautiful selection of blushes, and all in that beautiful pink and coral shade that always draws me in :o) Xx
ReplyDeleteMakeup by Candlelight
Thankyou! I know, it's an eternal suffering!
DeleteFirst off.. you are sooo pretty! Love that you showed how they look on.. second I have to get that Milani blush, I have been desperate to get my hands on it, I would totally recommend sleek blushes or you can't go wrong with a MAC blush! Xx
ReplyDeleteml-corner.blogspot.com
(LIES!!! jk, but thanks!..I think)
DeleteYeah, I wish I could get my hands on Sleek--but I will soon! I am determined! I also want to finally try a MAC blush this year, let's hope I make a good choice! c:
Seriously kudos to you for *actually* trying to narrow down the list! I don't even come close to that! I am going back to the cream blushes now, and I'll definitely be looking up some of these recommendations! (P.S: Have you tried the Wet n Wild Studio Icon blushes? They're $4-5 but SERIOUSLY beats some high-end blushes in terms of pigmentation and lasting power!)
ReplyDeleteStephanie | theFantasia
ENTIRE ARM WAS COVERED IN SWATCHES. Then I rethought the whole situation and picked out the ones I actually wear often. It was hard :(
DeleteI have tried them!! They're actually really amazing, but I find that the one I have, Pearlescent Pink, is just too glittery for me...which explains why most of the blushes in this post are matte/minimal shimmer
I am also a HUGE blush fan! I love rosy shades the most and like 80% of my blushes are rosy shades! My favorites from your picks is Luminoso, Mocha and the Berry one from Revlon! I used to have Mocha but gave it away to my grandmother! I so want some nyx blushes but I think I have dupes already in terms of color from catrice and canmake!
ReplyDeleteI KNOW YOU ARE ;) (We need some kind of rehab for blushes or something)
DeleteYEAH, YOU DO HAVE A LOT OF CATRICE BLUSHES, WHICH I'M JEALOUS OF, but NXY has an endless number of shades that I want to continue trying out!
They all look so pretty on you! You have a really cute smile^^ For me, I don't use blushes everyday~ mostly when I go out. But my favourite brand for blush is Sleek, do they have that in America/Canada? Thanks for sharing Vanessa! x
ReplyDeleteD'aww, thanks Emily! (THOUGH I WOULDN'T THINK THAT OF MYSELF, HAH)
DeleteYES, I've heard so much about Sleek!!! Dying to get my hands on some of those, but we don't have them here in Canada! I'll probably end up forking over shipping costs to see what this Sleek rave is all about! :3
I love your collection and AN WE TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH LIKE A PRINCESS YOU LOOK WITH THAT ESSENCE BLUSH?????
ReplyDeleteLuminoso is GORGEOUS. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP TALKING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I CANT GET IT AND I REALLY WANT TO. I really like NYX Dusty Rose. And can you please do the higher end favorites as well??? x
Daphne | subgenre of a dream | bloglovin | youtube
YES WE CAN TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOOK LIKE A PRINCESS WITH THE ESSENCE BLUSH. I FEEL LIKE PRINCESS PEACH ◡‿◡✿
DeleteI WOULDN'T MIND SHIPPING IT TO YOU. EVERYONE NEEDS LUMINOSO TBH.
(I had a panic attack when you asked for high end blushes because I thought I didn't have a lot but it turns out I have a lot...shockingly. BUT I WILL EVENTUALLY DO ONE. EVENTUALLY)
Great picks! I really need to try these!
ReplyDeleteRay | Obey Ray
Thanks! c:
Deleteyou did such a great job with this post and the colors really show up in the photos. i never can bet my blush to look very different in the photos i take. i think half the issue is i don't pack it on enough for the camera.
ReplyDeleteJenn
A Beautiful Zen
Yeah, you really have to build up colour for it to show on camera! Since y'know, the camera usually washes the colour out. (As with all other makeup, hah)
DeleteYou would not believe how much blush I had on to photograph for these photos. #clowncheeks
Girl can we take a second to appreciate your photos here? B-E-A-Utiful. I desperately want to try the Milani Blushes (seriously want to dribble at that!) but we don't have them here :( *cries, smashes plates, and shoots passing pigeon*. I got my first Nyx blush a couple months back (we can get Nyx online if we pay $10 delivery!) and luurrrrrve it, definitely want to try more! xxx
ReplyDelete(NGL, you're kinda pressuring me to take better photos. I'm always like "JAYE'S PHOTOS ARE SPOT ON GLOSS THERE GLOSS THERE SUCH SHINE" -coughcoughpeerpressure/stress-) I WILL SEND YOU SOME. EVENTUALLY. IT'LL BE GR8.
DeleteAhh, they're great aren't they? They're only $5 in the States, AND THERE'S ENDLESS SHADES ;-;
LOVE YOUR PHOTOS. Holy cow if I can get my photos to turn out like yours then I would have less of a headache bro. HOW IS THAT I DON'T OWN ANY OF THE BLUSHES YOU HAVE FEATURED HERE. I'm not sure how this is possible D: urgh, everything here is so pretty. I so need more blushes in my life!
ReplyDelete<3 Pauline, Addicted to Makeup
THANKS ʘ‿ʘ
DeleteI SOUND LIKE A BROKEN RECORD BUT WINDOWS ARE KEY!!! (I.e. natural light, heh. Makes editing them much easier)
OHO, YOU DON'T, EH? ;) (Mayyybe I'll ship some to you)
Your photography skills are amazing omg! The Bourjois nude velvet probably has to be my favourite blush colour out of them all ^_^ But you pretty much look amazing with any colour hehe!
ReplyDeletexx
Beautifyinglifee ♥
Ahhh, thanks!! (Trying to improve my photography this year!)
DeleteYeah, it's actually a really lovely natural colour (but dang, does it look pretty good when swatched)
I've nominated you for the Liebster Award! For more information read my latest blog post. I have issues applying blusher. xx
ReplyDeleteHanna Reynolds

Ahh, thankyou!
DeleteI used to have the same issue too--who knew applying blush can be so difficult?
Thank you so much for following me on bloglovin'! :)
DeleteAre elf blushes good? I haven't tried them and not sure whether to or not? x
ReplyDeleteSharlotte // Sharlotte
They're pretty decent!! + they're ridiculously inexpensive ($3 in the States), so it wouldn't hurt your wallet too much to try out for fun! c:
DeleteThis post is soooo darn beautiful! The photos of the blushers look PRO man! You're clearly better with a DSLR as a begginer than I am XD
ReplyDeleteAlso your pwn photos, girl you so pweetttty! and also you're super patient! swatching all of them on your face and all haha, thanks for the shoutout :') that was an unexpecter awwwwhh moment, yey for mellow mauve!
I'm so glad you get on well with that bourjois blush, I think I'll send you mine because it literally doesn't show up on my skin :( but wonderful post as usual <3

OH THANK YOU ʘ‿ʘ
Delete(Eh, I've been trying to play around with it more often + arranging products because I really want to up my photography this year!)(BUT DON'T SAY THAT, AS LONG AS WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS!!)
UHM, YES. THANKS FOR SAYING I'M 'PRETTY'. I THINK. I'LL TAKE THAT COMPLIMENT.
Darn!! Is it too light for your skintone? :( (Because yeah, it's a pretty pale shade and thank goodness I'm pale enough to pull it off)
P.S LOVING THE IDEA OF A DIFFERENT BRAND A MONTH!
ReplyDeleteSLEEK AND NARS = BESTEST THINGS EVER EVER EVER <3
RITE? RITE? Tryna restrain myself from drugstore purchases to save up for the ~luxe~ items
DeleteI like Revlon Berry Flirtatious and NYX Mocha. I actually don't have a favorite one right now, I need to find one cause my Clinique one is almost empty.

If you don't have a favourite, it means you don't have enough blushes ;)
DeleteI'll definitely check out your giveaway! :)
I LOVE the Essence blushes! So pigmented, great quality, and so affordable! I've been dying to get my hands on some Milani blushes, they look amazing! I've also really want to try out some cream blushes, so I'll be giving the Revlon and Bourjois ones a go in the future!
ReplyDeleteI have to recommend Sleek blushes, I absolutely adore them!
Elle | elleblgr.blogspot.ie
YES! SAME! I was originally going to include two Essence blushes but had to hold myself back ;-; (it was a tough decision)
DeleteYES! Everyone raves about the Sleek blushes, and I know I will DEFINITELY try them out this year!
AHh! Missed your posts girlie! I am pointing my finger at you right now, because I think you single-handedly made me a blusher ADDICT! I had maybe 3 or 4 when I started blogging..NOW I HAVE LIKE 20! Reading this post means that I'm already adding more blushers to my wish list!
ReplyDeletewww.lilting-grace.blogspot.com
2SWAGGITY. ;) YOU'VE FALLEN TO THE PINK SIDE, MUAHAHAHA. (Psh you have 20?? I MANAGED TO COLLECT 30-ISH SINCE I STARTED BLOGGING)
DeleteYay!! I hope you won't be disappointed by some of these!
Vanessa your photos are always so amazing and creative. They look like they're straight out of a catalogue or something x
ReplyDeleteOh and you look so pretty in these pictures!
DeleteThanks for sharing your top blushes oh Blush Whisperer :) Here I though I liked blush but you have me beat 8 ways to Sunday. I really like how varied in shades your selections are and how pretty they all look on you. The Milani Luminoso looked all kind of scary on your arm but is just lovely on your cheeks. I did a post on my favorite blushes awhile back but it needs to be updated since I have some new ones now -
ReplyDeletehttp://rolalaloves.blogspot.com/2013/02/favorites-blushes.html
The packaging for your new P&J blush must be gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing it!
Rowena @ rolala loves
HEHE, can't believe someone managed to call me that. NAH, we all like blush to varying degrees! I tried to make my selections as diverse as possible so there was something for everyone.
DeleteI WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE AN UPDATED POST :D
(And omg, it is!)
ooo vanessa i like that last pic of you with the revlon blush!! it's BERRY beautiful! hahaha okay that was corny! but really its nice, you should wear more bold or pinkish colors, they compliment your skintone. and we should buy the sleek pomegranate blush together, you haven't tried sleek yet right?
ReplyDeletePS : the stuff in you cover photo are so professionally arranged like in magazines! :)
IT'S OK I LAUGHED. I LAUGH AT ALL BAD/CORNY JOKES SO IT'S ALL GOOD BY ME. :D
DeleteYeah, hopefully I will try branching out this year! I've never been one for bold shades, because I'm scared I'll look like a clown! I DID A SLEEK HAUL RECENTLY AND ANOTHER FRIEND OF MINE TOLD ME TO TRY POMEGRANATE SO I PICKED THAT UP SO YEAH :D
Thanks Shayne!
ooo post the haul :D and thanks for supporting my corny joke! :)
DeleteGorgeous overview and I am in love with those pictures of yours.. but also those blushes. My oh my, it's so pretty.. I can't even choose a favorite :O
ReplyDeleteThankyou! c:
DeleteHaha, it's hard to pick a favourite amongst favourites!
I just looooove your photography skills! What kind of camera do you use if you don't mind me asking :)
ReplyDeleteNever mind, I just saw your FAQ section.. LOL don't mind this or the last comment I wrote ^__^
DeleteHaha, thank you! (I'M SURPRISED ANYONE LOOKS AT MY FAQ)
DeleteHey Vanessa! i'm so sorry I actually did mix you up with another awesome blogger here! Your layouts are a bit similar in my tiny mind and I'm going to amend it on my post! :p
ReplyDeleteHAHA, I thought I was going insane for a second there. No worries though! :D
DeleteI love Revlon Berry Flirtatious! Don't be shy, it looks great on you! I think my fave blushes are YSL creamy ones at the moment! :)
ReplyDeleteMyMakeUpCompulsion
Haha, thank you! I haven't tried any of YSL's blushes, so hopefully I get around to trying one out this year!
DeleteGreat picks! A nice and varied collection you have :-) I personally really love Smashbox blushes, but my top favorite right now is definitely the Sisley L'Orchidee Rose blush.
ReplyDeleteThankyou! I haven't tried Smashbox yet either (wow I'm really lacking in the brands I've tried), but I will look the Sisley blush up!
DeleteI've never tried a cream blush before since the formula seems a bit frightening for someone who loves setting powder like me, but everyone always makes them look so lovely! I guess I better get around to finally trying some out soon :)
ReplyDeleteYESS, cream blushes are amazing! Especially if they dry down to a powder finish, so it doesn't remain tacky on your face. Definitely get around trying one this year! c:
DeleteMy name's Mel and I'm a blush-addict. You definitely need to try NARS desire - scary in the pan, perfect on the face and a blusher from Laura Mercier - my personal favourite is the second skin cheek colour in Lush Nectarine xxx
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR MAKING ME GO BANKRUPT. (My NARS blush collection should grow slowly, darnit!) Ahhh, I've been meaning to try out one of Laura Mercier's blushes. I'll keep Lush Nectarine in mind next time I'm at Sephora!
Delete
